Practical liaison with tea producers
on working conditions
This position presents an exciting opportunity to work with international tea companies and to be instrumental in improving working conditions in tea factories and gardens in China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Based in Guangzhou China, with travel within mainland China, Vietnam and Taiwan. Closing date 26th January 2007
The Ethical Tea Partnership is a not-for-profit organization, established to work in partnership with producers to demonstrate that good working conditions exist within the tea industry. The Partnership includes 18 international tea packer companies. The ETP programme involves visits to tea factories and gardens to identify where improvements need to be made on working conditions such as health and safety and providing support to enable these improvements to be made.
The role will involve:
• Coordinating local activity of the ETP including all communication with tea producers and other stakeholders including local tea associations
• Visiting tea producing gardens and factories to assist producers in identifying areas for improvement in terms of working conditions for employees (eg health and safety, pesticide use, working hours)
• Developing training and projects to support producers to make improvements
Qualifications:
• Understanding of and experience in improving working conditions/ Corporate Social Responsibility
• At least 10 years professional business experience - Regional Management in the Agricultural Sector or manufacturing
• Native Mandarin speaker and fluent in spoken and written English
• Proven delivery of effective and practical solutions to complex and sensitive issues through engaging the support of a variety of key stakeholders
• Excellent communication and training/capacity building skills
• Strong leadership, diplomatic and project management skills
• Experience in the tea or another agricultural sector would be an advantage
• IT literate (including internet, Microsoft word, excel, publisher)
The successful candidate will be employed by Impactt Limited, an ethical trading consultancy based in UK, US and China but will be working solely on one client, the Ethical Tea Partnership.
